This research project focuses on the identification, classification, and analysis of prevalent idiomatic expressions within contemporary English usage. The aim is to create a comprehensive dictionary of frequently encountered idioms, providing detailed definitions, contextual examples, and usage notes. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining corpus linguistics techniques with qualitative analysis to discern the semantic nuances, cultural implications, and pragmatic functions of selected idioms. The project's structure will encompass a thorough literature review of existing idiom dictionaries and linguistic literature. The project will involve the collection and annotation of data from diverse sources including, but not limited to, written texts (academic articles, literature, news media) and spoken language (podcasts, interviews, and everyday conversations). The final deliverable will be a user-friendly, meticulously researched dictionary that is aimed at language learners and educators.
