This research project investigates the multifaceted role of colour idioms in the English language, exploring their semantic, pragmatic, and cultural dimensions. The study will provide a comprehensive overview of the most frequently used colour idioms, such as "feeling blue," "seeing red," and "green with envy," examining their origins, evolution, and contextual usage. The primary focus is elucidating how these idiomatic expressions contribute to the richness and nuance of English communication through metaphoric transference, cultural connotations, and stylistic variations. The methodology involves a combination of corpus analysis, focusing on large text datasets to identify and quantify the occurrences of colour idioms. Qualitative analysis will provide an insight into the semantic and pragmatic functions.
