This research project aims to explore the underlying motivations and aspirations expressed within the lyrical and musical content of rock bands across various subgenres and historical periods. It delves into the socio-cultural context that shapes the creative output of these artists, examining how their personal experiences, societal influences, and artistic intentions converge to create meaningful musical narratives. The project will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative analysis of song lyrics and interviews with band members (where possible) with quantitative analysis of musical structures and thematic trends. It will also consider the impact of technological advancements, media representation, and the evolution of the music industry on the bands' creative processes. The final work is designed to shed light on the complex relationship between artistic expression, personal identity, and the broader social landscape, ultimately contributing to a more nuanced understanding of rock music as a cultural phenomenon and a reflection of its time. The project will also attempt to uncover trends and patterns in motivational factors and aspirations, examining how these variables differ across generations, musical styles and geographical locations. Further it will reveal how the social and historical landscape shapes the lyrical content and musical style of rock bands worldwide.
