This research project delves into the intricate relationship between Russian toponyms (place names) and the adjectival forms they employ. The central focus is on investigating the semantic, morphological, and geographic patterns inherent in the use of adjectives in naming Russian localities. The project aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of adjectival toponyms, examining their origins, evolution, and the cultural and historical contexts that have shaped their usage. The study will incorporate both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including corpus linguistics, geographical information systems (GIS), and historical cartography. It will explore the distribution of different types of adjectival toponyms across various regions of Russia, seeking to identify any correlations between linguistic features and geographical characteristics. Furthermore, the project will consider the broader implications of this research for understanding the intersection of language, landscape, and cultural identity in Russia, and contribute to both linguistic and geographic scholarship.
