This research project investigates the multifaceted history and contemporary experiences of the African diaspora within the Russian Federation. It explores the formation of African communities in Russia, tracing their evolution from the pre-revolutionary era to the present day. The project examines the socio-economic, political, and cultural integration (and associated challenges) of individuals and groups of African descent, considering factors such as racial discrimination, access to education and employment, and the preservation of cultural identities. It will analyze archival materials, historical documents, and academic literature to offer a comprehensive understanding of the diasporic experience. Furthermore, the project attempts to uncover the cultural influences and contributions of the African diaspora on Russian society, including music, art, and literature, ultimately providing valuable insights into the dynamics of cultural exchange and identity formation. The study aims to contribute to a more nuanced appreciation of ethnic and cultural diversity in Russia and foster intercultural dialogue.
